*CALL TO WORSHIP
Spring is about to break forth!
In all the land, new life is happening!
Feel the wonder and power of God’s creative energy!
Feel the awe and joy of God’s love for us!
Let us worship God with a full sense of joy and expectation.
Let us open our hearts, our spirits, our souls, to
God’s lavish love. Amen.
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed
I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION CONFESSION OF SIN
Gracious God, you have chosen us to be your people and to praise your glory; but we confess that we have overlooked the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst, neglected the poor, and placed our confidence in the flesh. Forgive us, O God, for the selfish gains we have accrued are nothing compared to knowing Christ. Do not remember our former sins or consider the things of old. Restore the fortunes of your people, that we, with your whole creation, may declare your praise. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Let go of your fears.
We will overcome the world through Jesus Christ. God has forgiven you and offered to you God’s healing love. Accept this free gift. It is given for you through Jesus Christ.
All glory and honor to God. Amen.
ANTHEM I’ll Fly Away
Fifth Sunday of Lent
Is we snuff out the fifth candle and continue our Lenten journey this week, God reveals to us an important truth. The light of God always overcomes darkness.
Ephesians 5:8-9, “For though once your heart was full of darkness, now it is full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it! Because of this light within you, you should do only what is good and right and true.”
The truth of God’s Word brings light into our lives. Let the light of God shine in Your life. Live according to God’s word. Live as Children of the Light. Let the light of God overcome the dark thoughts in Your mind. And the light of God will flood your soul.
John 1:5 “His life is the light that shines through the darkness
— and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
The light that can never be extinguished burst forth from the tomb on Easter morning. Let the light of God overcome the darkness in your life this Lenten season. And you will become an eternal light, not just during Lent, but forever.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to open our hearts and minds to you this Lenten Season so that Your light may illuminate the darkness in our lives, so that we may become more like You and the whole world will know we are Children of the Light. Amen.
